Femi Fani-Kayode withdraws “stupid” remark
Nigeria’s Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has stated that it was inappropriate to use the word “stupid on a journalist at the Press conference in Calabar. During the press conference in Calabar on the 20th of August, a reporter asked the ex-minister if he was being bankrolled by anybody. Femi Fani-Kayode was visibly disgusted and lashed out at the Daily Trust Calabar correspondent, calling him “stupid”.
“I am saying this on live TV. What type of stupid question is that? Bankrolling who? Do you know who you are talking to? I will not take any questions from this man. What type of insulting question is that? Which bankroll?” Femi Fani-Kayode said
After the incident, the Daily Trust Journalist Eyo Charles went on to say he had to sneak out of the place after some of FFK’s aides were sent to threaten him.
The video which went viral on the 25th of August 2020 has been met with different reactions from various people across the country. Although he had initially vowed not to apologize, the former minister expressed his regret over this occurrence through his twitter handle this morning.
In his statement, he said that his advisors asked him to withdraw the statement after a meeting with them. In addition to this, he has also debunked claims that he sent some people to attack the journalist after the incident.
“I met with my advisors & I wish to say the following. I hereby withdraw the word “stupid” which I used in my encounter with a journalist in Calabar. I have many friends in the media who I offended by losing my cool & using such words. I hereby express my regrets for doing so,” the PDP chieftain said.
