Let’s take you on this adventure ride into the life of superstar Burna boy
Superstar Burna boy is definitely a big name in Africa’s entertainment and If you’re reading this post then you are an “Outsider” just like me. And just like most fans, you’ve got mad love for the Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy and want to know more about the African giant.
And if you’re like me, you’ve probably wondered what he does in his free time, when he isn’t busy recording in the studio or performing his heart out on stage.
Well, today you’re going to find out how Burna Boy spends a typical day, filled with music promotion, photoshoots, and self care.
But first, a brief introduction.
Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer.
Achievements
In 2019 his third studio album “Outside” marked his major-label debut and won him the 2019 BET Awards for Best International Act.
He went on to release his fourth studio album, “African Giant”, in the same year. And that album went on to win Album of the year at the 2019 All African Music Awards, and it was also nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
And his fifth studio album “Twice as Tall” won the award for Best World Music Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. This made him the first Nigerian artist to have back-to-back nominations at the Grammys.
Thanks to these, the two-time Grammy-nominated and award-winning star, Burna Boy, has gained massive global recognition in recent years, which has placed him on the cover of famous publications such as Rolling Stones and GQ Magazine.
And on the 28th of August, 2020, the American fashion and lifestyle magazine, Vogue, covered what it would be like to spend a full 24 hours with Burna Boy.

“24 Hours With Burna Boy”
Just like the rest of us, the African Giant loves his sleep, and Vogue noted this by saying “getting him up in the morning is the hardest thing to do”.
Burna Boy starts his day with an oversized comfy hoodie and a cup of warm water, which he says is supposed to balance out his late-night eating habit.
He then to lists out his itinerary for the day. Pointing out how busy the day ahead of him was. He says he needs to get groomed, have a photo shoot, fly to London to promote his album, Twice As Tall, and shoot a performance with Jimmy Fallon as soon as he lands in London.

The Nigerian superstar then goes to his kitchen to eat his breakfast. He pulls out a pack of cereal “Burna Boy’s Space Puffs” which he calls a vintage item from two years ago, 2018.
After that, he relocates to his bathroom to have a shower, so that he can “feel fresh”, and get cleaned up for the day. He goes on to drop some lyrical gems for the camera by saying, “I’m still in yesterday right now, so when I come out of here I’ll be in today”
Before having a shower he shows us that he is a simple man, who uses only soap and face wash for his morning routine. Nothing excessive.
After getting cleaned up for the day he takes a seat, with a towel wrapped around his shoulders, while his hairdresser braids his dreads and neatens them up. While he uses his mobile phone as his mirror.
As soon as he was through getting his braids done nicely, he then gets a barber to trim the hair on the side of his head, and carve up his hairline too.
“Every disappointment is a blessing”
The superstar mentions that the previous five months (March – July) was the only time that he had been home, in the past three years (since 2015). So for Burna Boy, it was a great opportunity for him to reflect and train his body and mind, and make the best of his opportunity. He closed the statement by noting how “every disappointment is a blessing.”
After his hair cut, he goes on to show us his favourite space in his house, his vinyl room. Where he goes to visit legends such as Bob Marley, Krissy Coitier, his grandfather, and Fela.
From there he went on to pick out the outfits for his first photo shoot for the day. He picked out some very simple but clean outfits, such as a grey t-shirt with blue trousers. He also put on a mini-show in between shoots, where he sang and danced for a few seconds.
After the photo shoot he went over to his home studio to work on his upcoming album, Twice As Tall. He went on to tell us what the album meant to him and how it was supposed to help us understand him on a personal level.
As soon as he was through with that, he and his team hit the streets of Lagos, Nigeria. While heading to the airport for a flight in his private jet.
Lagos to London
While on their way he stated that he had to go to London to promote the album (Twice As Tall) that day, to make sure that greatness is achieved. And at the same time, he also had to perform for a Jimmy Fallon episode that same night.
The superstar went on to tell us that the Twice As Tall album was a sequel to his last album (African Giant).
He also highlighted the fact that the album (Twice As Tall) is supposed to represent a time in his life and everyone’s life. And it is supposed to immortalize that period in time when black people in the world were starting to wake up.
After a long day of honest work, the superstar comes home to his private estate, where he decides to watch a movie in his home-built cinema, where he goes to kick back and relax with his bag of skittles.
