A Nigerian man Uche Raymond Okoye has been arrested for his role in an international criminal network that defrauds women.
The fraudster has been found guilty on 10 counts of obtaining money by false pretense.
Uche and the rest of the gang reportedly practiced a romance scam where women are befriended on social media and promised lavish gifts but scammed instead.
Also known as Uche Parker, the culprit was charged in February this year and charged before Magistrate Annette Singh in that Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The convict is now expected to remain in prison pending the time that he is sentenced on November 11.
Between October and November 2020, Uche obtained 059,900 from 65-year-old Suruj Dei Balkaran in the romance scam.

According to the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU), Okoye collected money from older women after befriending them on Facebook.
During the trial, the victim testified that she sent money to the scammer 10 times and the funds were gathered in her years as a vendor.
