About 240 prisoners have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kabba, Kogi State following an attack by gunmen.
The correctional facility was stormed by unknown men bearing weapons and there was an exchange of fire between them and the guards.
Channels TV reports that the gunman arrived in large numbers at midnight on Sunday, September 12th.
The terrible incident has been confirmed by the Spokesman of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Mr. Francis Enobore on Monday.
Enobore reported that the Comptroller–General, Haliru Nababa has ordered a recapture of the escapees as he leads a team to monitor the situation at the facility.
Mr. Nababa also urged the public to release any information that could prove vital to the recapture of the Kogi prison escapees.
Before the invasion, there were 294 inmates at the facility, with 224 being pre-trial detainees and 70 convicted criminals.

This prison break comes aback a recent one in Imo State on April 5, 2021.
In the same fashion, the facility was attacked by gunmen and 1,844 inmates escaped, after which they set the prison on fire.
