The New York Times has reported that Meta, formerly known as Facebook is planning to open its first retail stores.
Although the stores do not have an opening date yet, it is believed that they’ll be used by the company to display devices like virtual reality headsets and teleconferencing gadgets.
If things go according to plan as the New York Times reported, it will be Facebook’s first physical store.
News of the social media company’s new dream comes a week after the company changed its name.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the new name (Meta) signifies a shift in the company’s focus to building a virtual reality world where people can work and play.
The Oculus Quest virtual reality headsets, which will be rebranded MetaQuest is one of the devices expected to be sold in the retail store if Facebook goes through with the plan.
This device allows people to have a look at the company’s vision for the virtual reality world before they decide to buy.
Facebook won’t be the first tech company to have a retail store. Other tech giants which as Apple, Google and Microsoft have tried physical stores.
