Grammy Award: 7 Iconic Artists Who Never Won Music’s Most Prized Trophy

The Grammy Award is undoubtedly the most prestigious award that any musician can dream of winning. It is often regarded that winning this trophy puts you on the list of the elite in the music industry. Take a look at most of the world’s greatest musicians and you’ll see that they have a couple of Grammy plaques in their cabinet. Sadly, the thing about an award of this prestige is that it cannot be won by everyone, due to the intense competition for glory. In this article, we will take a look at some of the world’s most iconic musicians who have failed to win a Grammy award, despite releasing classic music projects.

Legendary artists without Grammy wins

  1. Snoop Dogg

Even Though Snoop Dogg has been nominated for the Grammys 19 times, the American rapper has never taken home the prize. The Deathrow records owner recently expressed his pain at always losing the award with a post on Instagram that says- “Grammys. 19 nominations and not a win thanks”

2. Katy Perry

Katy Perry is without a doubt, one of Pop’s greatest musicians in recent times. The 37-year-old singer is known for hit songs such as “Dark Horse” and “Roar”. Her 2013 album, Prism was also critically acclaimed but not enough to earn her a Grammy award. She has been nominated in various categories of the award 13 times, over the last 10 years but failed to bag a plaque.

3. Nicki Minaj

Only a handful of female artists can match the influence that Nicki Minaj has had on Hip-Pop. Since the release of her debut single, “Your Love” in 2010, Nicki has been a force to reckon with. Her success story was inspiring and it pushed her to 10 Grammy Award nominations, between 2011 and 2016. The only problem is that she failed to win on all occasions. In 2012, she lost the best new artist to Bon Iver and in 2016, she lost in 3 categories to Kendrick Lamar.

4. Sia

Sia is not just one of the greatest musicians of the past decade, she is also an amazing songwriter. In addition to releasing hits like “Chandelier” and “Titanium”, she wrote songs for elite singers including Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Katy Perry. Sia has had 9 Grammy nominations since 2013 but the talented Australian star is yet to be rewarded with an award.

5. Femi Kuti

Nigerian musician, Femi Kuti is another star who has yet to taste Grammy success despite releasing iconic projects several times. Even though Femi is the son of Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, he has gone on to establish a career for himself, independent of his father’s legacy. Femi Kuti has been nominated for the Grammy Award 7 times, with the most recent being 2 nominations at the 64th annual awards. He has however failed to win at all attempts.

6. Busta Rhymes

Just like Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes is another Hip-pop star that is yet to taste Grammy success. The veteran rapper has been nominated 12 times since 1996 but the prize continues to elude him. It might however be a little too late as his last nominations came in 2011 for “Best rap performance” and “Best rap song”.

7. Tupac

Would you believe it if I told you that the legendary Tupac doesn’t have a Grammy award? Despite being tagged one of the greatest rappers, Shakur failed to win the prestigious award, after 6 nominations. His first nomination came in 1995 when he lost to Coolio and Naughty by Nature. He also received a posthumous nomination but lost to Eminem in 2000.
