The 64th Grammy Awards which was earlier slated for January 31 was postponed by the Organizers on Wednesday due to uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant.

A statement released by the Recording Academy claimed that holding the award on January 31st contained too many risks due to rising COVID cases in the United States.

The Academy has also promised to release a rescheduled date for the music event “soon”.

A portion of the statement reads:

“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.”

A class of new pop stars and already established music artists such as Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo led nominations for the 2022 awards.

The most nominations were however garnered by jazz and R&B artist Jon Batiste as he registered 11 nominations.

Last year’s show was the first Grammy Awards of the pandemic era and it was a hybrid of an in-person and online event.
