Dallas Resident Contracts Monkeypox Virus After Visiting Nigeria

  • A case of rare viral disease monkeypox has been reported in a Dallas resident after returning to the US from Nigeria
  • The patient reportedly developed the rash before leaving Nigeria but the case worsened on arriving in Dallas
  • Health authorities in Dallas have confirmed that the resident has been hospitalised and is in stable condition

The Dallas County Health authority has reported that a resident has contracted viral disease monkeypox after visiting Nigeria.

The patient who is a Dallas resident noticed the rash before leaving Nigeria but it reportedly worsened upon arrival in the US.

The patient who was hospitalized immediately is currently in stable condition, according to the Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services.

The Centers for Disease Control is currently working with Delta Air Lines and other officials to track down other passengers that the patient may have been in contact with during the flight.

Public health officials disclosed that some individuals who were in direct contact with the patient have been identified and contacted.

Authorities believe that the risk of the spread of the virus is minimal since passengers aboard the aircraft were mandated to wear nose masks because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

What is Monkeypox?

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that is accompanied by symptoms of flu. The disease results in the swelling of lymph nodes and causes rash around the body.

CDC testing has shown that this strain of monkeypox usually lasts for 2 to 4 weeks and has a death rate of only 1%.
