Met Gala 2022: Best Dressed Stars From This Year’s Event

The theme for this year’s Met Gala is gilded glamour and what exactly is gilded glamour? People have been trying to decipher the meaning of the Met Gala’s 2022 theme since it was announced publicly.

Guests at the ceremony were free to chart their course, given the room for interpretation. They did so with gusto, dressed to the nines in custom designer outfits and vintage.

Celebrities have tried to come up with what the theme could mean and what it represents and so far 60% go it wrong. The theme represents the ’90s style and only a few stars got it right.

It is not far-fetched to call the Met gala the Party of the Year, the East Coast Oscars, or fashion’s biggest night. The Met Gala is always an evening to remember in any case.

Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Regina King hosted the event, which was joined by honorary co-chairs Anna Wintour, Tom Ford, and Adam Mosseri, as well as the world’s biggest stars and A-listers, all of whom were briefed on the “gilded glamour” dress code. “What I love about the Met is that people aren’t afraid to go in,” says Anna Wintour.

As usual, the red carpet was crowded with long trains, massive jewels, and extroverts looking to make a statement. Because of the abundance of attention-grabbing looks, deviating from the norm was the only way to truly stand out.

Dakota Johnson looks astonishing in Alessandro Michele’s designs, but the fringed sequin catsuit the designer dished out for her Met appearance felt new. Similarly, Erykah Badu’s layers of beaded Marni suiting, complete with a towering hat were a stunning twist on the star’s favorite silhouette.

Several celebrities chose to dress in vintage, emphasizing the importance of sustainability. Each of Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton muses, including Hoyeon Jung, Emma Stone, and Cynthia Erivo, arrived on the red carpet wearing a piece from the brand’s archives that had been styled to fit their tastes. Adut Akech went even further back in time by wearing an emerald green Christian Lacroix gown from Shrimpton Couture with supermodel swagger.
