What is Ramsay Hunt syndrome?

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a neurological condition which is caused by varicella zoster virus. This same virus causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults. Once the virus is contracted, it often lingers in your body for your entire life, even after recovery. This means that the virus can reawaken to affect the nerves in your face again.
