ABUAD Ranked No1 Nigerian University and Top 400 Globally

Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Ekiti State has been ranked the number one University in Nigeria and among the top 400 globally. This ranking is according to the latest update provided by  United States-based Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THEIR).

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is highly rated among global varsities, students, government, and education experts.  Their body examines performance indicators that assess universities’ performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

ABUAD’s progress was announced in a letter titled ‘2022 The Impact Rankings’ by former National Universities Commission (NUC) Executive Secretary, Prof. Peter Okebukola. It was addressed to the school’s vice-chancellor.

Okebukola stated in his letter, “The 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (measured against the SDGs) were released today.” The top three universities are Afe Babalola University (first), Covenant University (second), and the University of Ibadan (third).

He congratulated the Nigerian universities that made the list and said the country was aiming to get schools within the top 200 of the ranking over the next few years.

“In accordance with our strategic plan for 2022-2030, the Nigeria Universities Ranking Advisory Committee (NURAC) will collaborate with all universities in the system to ensure that we are no pushover on global league tables beginning in 2023.” 

In response to the news, ABUAD’s acting VC, Prof. Olarinde, attributed the magnificent feat to the university’s collaboration with the NUC, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Council for Legal Education, and the Nigerian Society of Engineers, among others.

Olarinde expressed delight that global organizations outside Nigeria have been watching ABUAD’s achievements with bated breath since it began academic work on January 4, 2010. 

“The other universities ranked are the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, the California Institute of Technology in the United States of America, Harvard University in the United States, Stanford University in the United States, the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, Princeton University in the United States, the University of California, Berkeley in the United States, Yale University in the United States, and The University of Chicago in the United States,” he added.

The university president thanked the parents and other well-wishers who congratulated her and the university on the monumental achievement.
