Two days after the D’Tigers got bounced out of the competition, D’Tigress have followed after a loss to Japan.

The game match ended NGR 83-JPN 102 as Nigeria fails to secure a win before crashing out.

Following losses to the USA and France in their first two games, D’tigers had to beat Japan by a wide margin to keep qualification hopes alive.

Coach Otis Hughley commenced the game with a starting 5 of Oderah Chidom, Erica Ogwumike, Ezinne Kalu, Ify Ibekwe, and Victoria Macaulay.

This was however not enough to stop them from losing the 1st quarter by 8 points (22-30).

Japan had success shooting a lot of 3 pointers while Nigeria was restricted to two-point shots.

Things only worsened in the second quarter as Japan extended their lead against Nigeria women basketball team to 13 points (38-51).

Although many kept hopes for a magnificent turnaround in the second half, it was not to be as the team was beaten 83-102.

Meanwhile, in the women 100m hurdles, Nigeria’s representative Tobi Amusan failed to pick up a medal.
