Amusan becomes the first Nigerian athlete to qualify for the final of the Women’s 100m hurdles since 2000, and she has been tipped to pick up a medal in the final
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics has not been a good one for Nigeria. The country has had to deal with is qualifications and suspensions of athletes, reducing the chances of securing a medal.
There might yet be hope for Nigeria to pick up something in the Women’s 100m hurdles event through representative Tobi Amusan.
The superfast runner has been highly impressive in the qualification stages, as she finished first in the semi-final race, in a time of 12.62 seconds.
Amusan becomes Nigeria’s first representative to make it to the final since Gloria Alozie who did so at the Sydney Olympics 21 years ago.
Tobi Amusan has been highly consistent throughout the season and many have tipped the 23-year old to secure a medal in the final of the women’s 100m hurdles event.
Two other Nigerians, Enoch Adegoke and Ese Brume also made it to the finals of the men’s 100m event and Long jump respectively.

Unfortunately, Enoch Adegoke was unable to finish the final after picking up an injury 50 meters into the race.

Ese Brume on the other hand will compete with other world-class athletes at the women’s long jump final on Tuesday.
