Lebron James, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo Top List of 2022’s Highest-Earning Athletes
Lebron James has topped the list of highest-earning athletes in 2022, earning $126.9 million in the past year.
James is followed by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who earned $122 million and $115 million respectively.
Other athletes on the list include Neymar, Canelo Alvarez, and Stephen Curry
Professional American basketball player, Lebron James has been ranked the highest-earning athlete in the world in 2022.
This was disclosed in a recent research by Sportico that took into consideration all earnings between June 2021 to May 2022. The earnings covered combined salary and prize money received by the athletes from various activities.
The report showed that Lebron James made $126.9 million in the last year to occupy the top spot. He was followed by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who earned $122 million and $115 million respectively.
Tigerwood also featured on the list, making 10th position with estimated earnings of $73.5 million. In addition to the top 3, Neymar was the only other athlete to earn above $100 million. The Brazilian football star has taken home $103 in the past year.
Further analysis shows that the top 10 athletes earned over $1 billion within the year under study. The top 100 play 10 different sports and collectively earned an estimated $4.5 billion.
The total earning of the top 100 athletes indicates a 6% increase from the amount recorded last year.
Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka ranked the highest-earning athlete among females and the 20th overall with $53.2 million.
