Boxer Jeanette Zapata Dies After Taking Critical Hit During a Fight

• A Mexican boxer Jeanette Zapata has died after taking a knockout that left her in critical condition last week

• Zapata was knocked out in the fourth round during her fight Marie Pier Houle at the GVM Gala International

• The 18-year-old boxer took a left uppercut and a right hook that caused her to have a seizure and she was rushed to the hospital

The most unfortunate thing happened to a female Mexican boxer Jeanette Zacarias Zapata on today.

The 18-year-old has reportedly passed away after suffering a seizure during her last match against Marie Pier Houle at the GVM Gala International in Montreal.

Jeanette Zapata received a left uppercut and a right hook that knocked her out and resulted in a seizure.

Referee Albert Paduano Junior who noticed the boxer’s predicament called off the match and she was rushed to the hospital.

Fight promoter Yvon Michel announced the death of the boxer in a statement on Thursday, September 2.

“It is with great sadness and torment that we learned, from a representative of her family, that Jeanette Zacarias Zapata passed away this afternoon at 3:45 pm.”

Jeanette Zapata’s opponent in the match Marie Pier Houle has taken to social media to offer her condolences.

“Boxing carries a lot of risks and dangers,” she wrote on Instagram. “This is our job, our passion. Never, forever, intention to seriously hurt an opponent is part of my plans.”

“I extend my deepest condolences to her family and spouse Jovanni Martinez. Thank you for respecting my desire not to comment more”

World Boxing Council has also paid tribute to the young boxer while offering condolences to her family.
