The House of Representatives is considering making it a criminal offence for ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government to conduct secret recruitments
If the bill is passed and signed into law, any recruitment by any MDA without publishing the vacancy to the public will become unlawful and attract punishment.
The bill called A Bill for an Act to Prohibit Secret Recruitment in the Federal Public Service and to Make Elaborate Provisions for Transparency in Recruitment in the Public Service is being sponsored by Mr Teejay Yusuf representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.
According to Hon Yusuf, the bill is geared towards promoting integrity and transparency in recruitment into the Federal Civil Service by making it punishable for a federal ministry, agency or parastatal to fill existing vacancies in without making it public.
In the past, several MDAs have been caught in recruitment scandals National Space Research and Development Agency, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, National Open University and the Nigerian Navy.
