President Muhammadu Buhari issued a ban on Twitter after a threatening tweet was deleted from the President’s account.

According to Trump, the social platform doesn’t have the right to dictate right from wrong and limit free speech.

The controversial businessman urged other countries to follow Nigeria’s step and ban Twitter and Facebook.

It will be recalled that Donald Trump was banned on both platforms in January after he was adjudged to have triggered violence at the US Capitol.

His posts before and after the riot encouraged people to storm the building.

While Twitter plans to make the ex President’s ban permanent, Facebook has announced that Trump’s account will be suspended for at least 2 years.

Trump claims that he would have banned Facebook while he was still in power but Mark Zuckerberg the platform’s CEO kept visiting him in the White House to tell him “how great he was”.

Nigerian authorities accused Twitter of threatening the country’s “corporate existence”. Stating that this was the reason for the ban rather than the clash with the president.

Following the suspension, an order has been placed for the arrest of Nigerians who continue to access the platform with the use of a VPN.
