Hacker Steals N1.8 Billion From Nigerian Bank

  • A Nigerian hacker suspect, Femi Salau had been arrested by the Nigerian police force for defrauding a bank of N1.868bn
  • The cybercriminal got assistance from two Bureau De Change operators for the fraud and they were also captured
  • Salau used software to develop fake credit deposits into the accounts of some customers of the bank before transferring them to other banks

A Nigerian hacker Femi Salau has been arrested after he perpetrated a fraud worth almost N2 billion on a top bank in the country.

Salua sort the help of two Bureau De Change operators to accomplish this crime and they have also both been arrested.

According to PUNCH NG, the alleged cybercriminal used software to make fake credit transfers worth N1.868 billion to customers of the affected bank.

A police spokesperson, Eyitayo Johnson revealed that Salua had successfully made debit transfers worth over N400 to other banks before he was caught.

Part of the statement from the police can be seen below;

“The hacker, who displayed exemplary mastery of the cyber environment, was arrested after he hacked into the Flex-Cube Universal Banking System of a first-generation bank.”

The police unit was able to contact the Central Bank and other banks where the money was distributed to salvage a large part of the money.

Following his arrest by the police, items such as a MacBook and iPhone were retrieved from the hacker.

The police also disclosed that upon completion of investigations, Salau and his accomplices will be charged to court.
