Former Chelsea football club captain John Terry has rejoined the club, taking up a coaching consultancy role at the academy.

According to Sky Sports, Terry will deliver on-field coaching, contribute to coaching discussions and mentor youth players from the club’s academy.

The former Aston Villa assistant manager will begin the role in a part-time capacity from January next year.

Announcing the deal, a part of Chelsea’s statement reads:

“This flexibility is beneficial for both John and the academy, as it allows him to continue to develop his own coaching skills alongside other commitments, while being used optimally within our development programme,”

Like the players that he will be working with, Terry came through Chelsea’s academy and worked his way up to the senior team, making 717 senior appearances for Chelsea.

The English defender served as the club captain in 500 games, aiding the club’s win of over 17 trophies, including 5 Premier League titles and 1 Champions League.
