Apple Offers $180,000 to Employees to Stop Facebook Defection

Bloomberg has reported that Apple is paying out surprise bonuses of up to $180,000 to software engineers to stop them from defecting to other big tech companies.

Some of the company’s engineers were told that they will be receiving the bonuses last week, the report says.

The bonus which came in the form of stock units ranged from $50,000 to $180,000, according to the outlet.

However, the stock grants take four years to mature, giving the employees reason to stay with the iPhone maker for the time being.

The news comes amid competition between big tech companies for scarce software engineers in Silicon Valley.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook has reportedly hired over 100 Apple engineers in the past few months.

The company is looking to hire more augmented reality, artificial intelligence, software, and hardware engineering employees for its coming projects.

Earlier this month, Apple gave all employees across the company a bonus of over $1000.

Meanwhile, Meta, Google can other top tech firms are the offering employees full-time remote opportunities in a bid to lure them from stricter competitors.
