
Will Smith Faces Multiple Sanctions For Oscar’s Assault on Chris Rock

The Academy, the body responsible for the governing of the Oscar awards, has announced that it has initiated “disciplinary proceedings” against Will Smith after he assaulted Chris Rock.
During the 94th Academy ceremony that was held on the 28th of March 2022, Smith walked onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock after the latter made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
In the Academy’s statement, it was also revealed that Will Smith was asked to leave the event after the incident but he declined.
The awarding body currently holds Standards of Conduct that bars attendees from inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy.
It confirmed that 53-year-old Smith had been found to have violated the Standards of Conduct.
The Academy said action which includes “suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions” may be taken at its next board meeting on 18 April.

It also apologized directly to Rock, who was on the receiving end of the slap as well as nominees, guests, and viewers.
Meanwhile, in his first appearance since the incident, Rock said he is “still processing.” While speaking to the crowd at a stand-up show in Boston, he promised to address the issue “at some point.”
