Will Smith Hits Comedian Chris Rock on Oscars Stage, Gives Shocking Reason

The 2022 Academy Awards Ceremony was highly entertaining and this wasn’t due to the regular events and winning speeches as you’d expect. American actor Will Smith stole the show when he jumped on stage to slap colleague Chris Rock for a joke that the event host made.

Apparently, Chris Rock made a Joke about the Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett, saying “Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2”. The joke was in an apparent reference to her shaved hairdo as a result of s shaved hair condition called alopecia.

Will Smith didn’t find this funny, however, as he walked on stage and struck Chis Rock before returning to his seat and shouting: “Keep my wife’s name out of your F**king mouth”

The comedian was shocked by the aftermath of the incident but called it the “greatest night in the history of television.”

The Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed that Rock has decided not to file a police report following the incident.

Will Smith eventually tendered an apology while receiving his award for best actor.

“I want to apologise to the Academy. I want to apologise to my fellow nominees…I know to do what we do, you got to be able to take abuse. You got to be able to have people talk crazy about you. In this business, you got to be able to have people disrespecting you. And you got to smile and you got to pretend like that’s okay.”
