Nigeria Records Highest COVID 19 Deaths, Set For 3rd Wave?

  • Nigeria has recorded its highest daily fatality from COVID 19 since the outbreak of the disease

  • The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) revealed that 28 people died from the disease on the 31st of May, 2021

  • The country also recorded its highest number of new cases (203) in the last 2 months

Experts have predicted that Nigeria may be set to experience a third wave of the COVID 19 pandemic.

This is after the country recorded 203 new cases on May 31st, its highest in the last two months.

According to an update from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), a record of 28 deaths was also reported.

The new death record beats the previous one of 27 deaths which was set in January 30, 2021, and has taken the country’s death toll to 2,099.

Benue state recorded the highest daily infection with 178 out of the total recorded cases.

COVID 19

Lagos followed with 10 recorded cases and Ondo, Abuja, and Kaduna had 6, 4, and 4 respectively.

Before the recent spike, Nigeria was averaging below 100 new cases per day, easing fears about the virus.

Many however fear that the arrival of 200 travellers classified as health hazards, could put more people at risk.
