Unbelievable: 93 COVID 19 Deaths Recorded in Nigeria and 362 New Cases

  • The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 93 deaths resulting from COVID 19 complications on Sunday
  • 362 new cases of the deadly infection were also confirmed across 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory
  • The NCDC has confirmed that the surge in cases has been driven by the spread of the delta variant, a more infectious strain of the virus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported a surge in COVID 19 deaths in its latest report.

The NCDC confirmed that 93 Nigerians died from complications involving the deadly virus on August 30th, significantly more than yesterday’s 56.

The high number of deaths was a result of a backlog of unreported fatalities in Lagos.

362 new cases were also reported across 18 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory according to the website of the agency, bringing the death toll to 2,454.

Based on the most recent report, there are 10,608 active COVID 19 cases, slightly more than 10,575 in Saturday’s report

According to the latest NCDC data, Lagos leads with 200, while Oyo and Kwara follow with 33 and 30 respectively.

Other states cases are Akwa Ibom (24), Ogun (17), Delta (15), Ekiti (15), Plateau (7), Rivers (7), FCT (5), Anambra (3), Edo (3), Bayelsa (1, Kaduna (1, and Gombe (1).

It is worth noting that no case was recorded in 4 states (Ondo, Osun, Nasarawa and Sokoto) where testing was carried out.

Meanwhile, Lagos state has revealed that it will begin the second round of vaccination today, August 30.

The Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Health, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo has disclosed that the vaccination will hold for 20 days and only people who had received the first jab of the vaccine during the first phase of the AstraZeneca vaccination are eligible.
