56 COVID 19 Deaths Recorded in Nigeria as Cases Spike

  • The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 56 deaths resulting from COVID 19 complications on Saturday
  • 650 new cases of the deadly infection were also confirmed across 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory
  • The NCDC has confirmed that the surge in cases has been driven by the spread of the delta variant, a more infectious strain of the virus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported a surge in COVID 19 cases and deaths in its latest report.

The NCDC confirmed that 56 Nigerians died from complications involving the deadly virus over the day.

650 deaths were also reported across 16 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory according to the website of the agency, bringing the death toll to 2,361.

Data on the website also shows that 650 new recorded cases are slightly more than the 618 cases that were recorded in the previous day.

However, based on the recent report, there are 10,575 active COVID 19 cases, significantly less than 18,210 in Friday’s report.

The latest NCDC data shows that Lagos leads with 281, while Ondo and Rivers follow with 95 and 80 respectively.

Other states cases are Akwa Ibom (59), Oyo (24), Ekiti (22), Delta (20), Edo (18), Enugu (15), Bayelsa (14), Ogun (11), Kaduna (8), Plateau (7), Kano (6), the FCT (5), Gombe (3), and Abia (2).

It is worth noting that no case was recorded in 3 states (Borno, Nasarawa and Sokoto) where testing was carried out.
