Facebook Reels Globally Launched By Meta
-
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Facebook Reels is set to launch as a feature on the social media platform
-
Similar to Instagram Reels, Facebook will now have its own version of the feature that was first launched on TikTok
-
The feature was made available outside the United States from February 22 and rolled out to 150 countries globally
5 months after Facebook Reels became available to the platform’s users in the United States, the company has disclosed that it is rolling out the feature to 150 countries globally. The trendy feature which was inspired by rival platform TikTok, allows creators to share short video content on Facebook, in order to reach a wider audience.
This follows the implementation of the same Reels feature on Instagram as a response to the threat from TikTok. Meanwhile, alongside the global rollout of Facebook Reels, the company is introducing more creative ways for creators to make money from their Reels through advertising and “Stars”.

The integration of the “Reels” feature on Facebook comes after the company announced that it had become its “fastest-growing content format by far.” The company also disclosed that the feature greatly contributed to Instagram’s growth and it also “growing very quickly” on Facebook.
Reels however monetizes at a much lower rate than other content formats on Instagram such as Feed and Stories. On that front, Meta has announced that it will expand tests of Facebook’s Reel Overlay Ads to all creators in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. By mid-March, the test will expand to other countries where in-stream ads are available.
