20-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic has stated that he is willing to sacrifice future tennis trophies rather than be forced to get vaccinated for COVID 19.

During an exclusive interview with BBC, Djokovic dissociated himself from the anti-vax movement but added that he supports individuals’ rights to choose whether to get vaccinated or not.
When the Serbian tennis star was asked if he would sacrifice taking part in Wimbledon and other similar competitions such as the French Open over his stance on the vaccine, he said:

“Yes, that is the price that I’m willing to pay,”

Last year, the 34-year-old was deported from Australia after the government canceled his visa in a row over his vaccine status. Novak Djokovic claimed that he had obtained a medical exemption to enter the country for the Australian Open after recently recovering from COVID. Australia’s immigration minister Alex Hawke however canceled his visa, stating that his presence would incite “civil unrest” and encourage anti-vaxxers.

In his recent interview, Djokovic has also claimed that he hoped vaccination requirements in tournaments will change and he hoped to play for many more years.
