  • Online subscription platform OnlyFans has launched a feature for users to display verified NFTs as profile pictures
  • The UK-based company disclosed that the feature was launched in December and only supports NFTs minted on the Ethereum blockchain
  • It joins social media companies such as Twitter and Reddit who have incorporated profile photos of NFTs on their platforms

OnlyFans, one of the world’s most popular subscription platforms known for its adult content, has joined the NFT world. The company disclosed that it has launched a feature that will allow users to display verified NFTs as their profile pictures.

The UK-based organization disclosed that the feature was introduced in December, following the steps of social media companies Reddit and Twitter who have launched similar features recently.
Announcing the new feature, the CEO of the company, Ami Gan released a statement to Reuters, saying that this is the first step in exploring the role that NFTs can serve on the subscription platform. A part of the statement reads:

“Our mission is to empower creators to own their full potential”

While unveiling this new feature, OnlyFans has said that only NFTs that are minted on the Ethereum blockchain are supported and the profile picture would feature an Ethereum icon to validate its authenticity.
Asides from OnlyFans, Alphabet’s YouTube disclosed this week that it also has its own plans for the NFT space. The company plans to offer ways to verify the legitimacy of digital assets by using its video library.

Sales of NFTs have surged since last year as more people are buying artworks and videos of sports highlights as NFTs.
