Reddit to Launch NFT Profile Pic Feature, Following Twitter

  • Reddit is set to launch a feature that will allow users to set their NFT as their profile pictures
  • This follows a similar feature that was launched on Twitter where information about the NFT was provided when clicked
  • Reddit has confirmed that testing for this feature is in its early stages and not yet available to public users

Micro-posting website Reddit is set to take a huge step into the world of Non-fungible-tokens (NFTs). The company is reportedly testing out a new feature that will allow users to set NFTs as their profile pictures on the platform.

A spokesperson for the platform Tim Rathschmidt confirmed the functionality in a statement which can be seen below.

“We’re always exploring ways to provide value for users and communities on Reddit. At the moment we’re testing the ability to use NFTs as profile pictures (avatars) and verify ownership.”

Rathschmidt however revealed that the company is still carrying out a small, internal test and no decision has been taken about the time that the feature will be released for public users.

The functionality is similar to one that was recently released by social media giant Twitter that allowed verified users to set NFTs as their profile pictures. Twitter’s feature also allows other users to verify your ownership of the asset by providing more details when the picture is clicked on.

The NFT profile picture feature wouldn’t be Reddit’s first foray into the NFT space.

Last year the company launched its own NFTs called Cryptonoos. Users that acquired these NFTs already have the profile picture feature.
