Blackout in Nigeria as National Grid Collapse Again

Yesterday, the nation’s electricity supply suffered a major setback as the country was plunged into darkness owing to the collapse of the national grid.

Operated from Oshogbo, the Osun State capital, the national grid has been epileptic for a long time given the numerous collapses that has been recorded this year along.

According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the collapse occurred about 11:25am with the agency blaming the multiple tripping for the happening. The agency also added that electricity has already been restored in some part of the country while other locations would follow soon as efforts are been put in place to expedite the restoration.

Several distribution companies, including Kaduna and EKO, publicly notified their customers of the developed through SMS and social media. On its Twitter account, EKO Power Distribution Company said

“Dear customer, the outage you’re experiencing is due to a system collapse on the national grid. We are working with our TCN partners to restore supply as soon as possible. Please bear with us.”

The TCN also pledged that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out to ascertain the cause of the multiple tripping that triggered the collapse of the grid.
