Team Nigeria has continued an impressive showing at the Tokyo Paralympics in Japan as the country cliched its 3rd gold medal and 6 overall.
Powerlifter Folashade Oluwafemiayo won the country’s third gold medal in the women’s 86kg category.
She lifted 152kg on Monday morning, breaking her previous world record of 151kg which was set in Manchester on March 28, 2021.
Oluwafemiayo was far superior to China’s Zheng Feifei who claimed the silver medal by lifting 139kg while Sugden Louise of Great Britain got bronze after lifting 131kg.
The 36-year-old is Nigeria’s third representative to win gold at the Paralympics after Tijani Latifat and Bose Omolayo.
Nigeria now has 6 medals in total at the competition (3 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze).
All Nigeria’s gold medals at the ongoing competition have come from powerlifting and the country ranks 21st on the overall medal table.
