French footballer Jean Pierre Adams has died at the age of 73 after slipping into a coma 39 years ago.

Naija FM had released a report about the footballer earlier this year, recounting his terrible experience.

In 1982, Adams was only 34 when he went for knee surgery at the Lyon Hospital.

He was expected to wake up in only a few hours but complications with the anaesthesia caused him to slip into a deep coma.

Adams remained in the coma for 39 years until he was pronounced dead today September 6 at the Nimes University Hospital.

Born in 1948 in Dakar Senegal, the footballer moved to France in his early years and ended up featuring for the football national team between 1972 to 1976.

Jean Pierre Adams also played for top French club Paris Saint Germain 41 times, although most of his active career was at Nice.

The footballer was on course to earn a professional coaching badge when the unfortunate incident occurred.

During a report in 2007, Adams’s wife Bernadette disclosed that the footballer could hear, smell and feel things but he could not see.
