Former Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo, was reported to have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Refinery Road, Warri, in Delta State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Onome Onovawakpoyeya, told newsmen how Obodo, 36, was abducted by the gunmen when he stopped by to buy bananas on Sunday,
“Obodo was kidnapped at about 5pm on Sunday around Ishaka Hotel just along Refinery Road,” Onovawakpoyeya disclosed.
“He was with his girlfriend when he was abducted as they had both stopped by the road to buy bananas and no ransom was paid before his release” She added.
This will be the second time the former Eagles midfielder has been kidnapped by gunmen., the first time being June 9, 2012, while on his way to church in Warri.

It can be recalled that Nigerian internationals who are plying their trades in Europe are often victim of kidnapping or their relatives usually becomes a potential target to be kidnapped for ransom.
Ex- Super Eagles defender Onyekachi Apam was kidnapped in 2007, while former captains Joseph Yobo and John Obi Mikel have had their relatives abducted for ransom at different time within the country.
