
Many of prisoners escaped on Monday morning in Benin, Edo State as suspected thugs attacked the White House prison along Sapele Road in the City.
The prison warders had engaged the suspected thugs in a gun battle but had to retreat after the crowd became much and overran them. The armed squad of prison officials did left some persons injured.

The High Court 4 which is beside the prison where the hoodlums had vandalised was also destroyed. A police was reportedly also raised down as the angry mob grew menacing.
The hoodlums started gathering as early as 7am along Sapele Road which is just beside thewhite house prison. They kicked by setting bonfires and sending back road users. They thereafter launched their attack as more supporters joined in. Some broke a part of the wall while others climbed the fence into the prison yard. Few members of the inmates escaped with gunshots injuries but an elderly unfornately was captured as he made way to mix with thr crowd.
