Former deputy commissioner of police and the Head of the Elite Intelligence Response Team of the inspector-General of police, Mr. Abba Kyari, has reportedly been rescued by the police from the Kuje prison inmates.

The former commissioner of police, who is currently on trial for drug-related offences, was attacked by prison inmates who accused him of dishonesty and collecting funds from them while he was still in service.

He was severely dilapidated and almost killed after about 190 prisoners attacked him in prison for prosecuting them even after collecting bribes from them.

Mr. Kyarri, 47, was first discontinued from his position as a commissioner after American investigators named him an ally to the Lagos-born international fraudster and money launderer Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, famously known as Hushpupi.

In February again, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) released a video that showed him discussing drug trafficking with team members.

In March, he was charged to court and was remanded in the Kuje prison for drug trafficking conspiracy.

The police officials are considering relocating Mr Abba Kyarri to the State Security Services (SSS) custody after the incident. He is currently in an isolated cell with security guards to avoid any further attack on him.

Meanwhile, another source in the prison said that Mr. Abba Kyari has relevant officers guarding him and attending to his request. He is also allowed to see his wife and is given access to mobile devices and a place to worship.
