President Buhari Leaves Abuja to Attend AU Summit in Equatorial Guinea 

  • President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday departed Abuja to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to take part in the African Union Extra-ordinary Session.
  • According to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, the summit will focus mainly on security.
  • The summit would be on for three days, holding from the 26th to the 28th of May.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday left Nigeria for Equatorial Guinea. The president is set to take part in the African Union Extra-ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

This year’s AU summit would be held at Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, and President Buhari would be in attendance.

The three days summit will focus mainly on security issues, migration, refugees, returnees, and internally displaced persons.

In addition, the African leaders will look into terrorism and unconstitutional changes in government, with attendant spiraling effects on human rights and economies, on which they plan to take a united stand.

President Buhari along with other African Leaders will deliberate on these pressing issues and participate in the adoption of the Assembly Declaration on Humanitarian Summit.

Accompanying President Buhari on this journey is his wife Mrs. Aisha Buhari who is currently the President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission.

Also accompanying President Buhari are: Geoffrey Onyeama, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Maj-Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (Rtd), the Minister of Defence, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (Rtd), National Security Adviser, Amb. Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar, Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Aadiya Umar Farouq Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management & Social Development.

It was also revealed that President Buhari will hold sideline meetings with some undisclosed African leaders in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
