Manchester United goalkeeper, Paul Woolston has announced his retirement from professional football at only the age of 23.
In a statement that was published on the club’s website, Manchester United confirmed Woolston’s retirement despite significant determination to return to fitness.
The shot-stopper was forced to call time on his career yesterday after continuous struggles due to injuries.
The North Shields-born player’s retirement comes as a shock to many even though he had undergone two operations and a lengthy rehabilitation in recent times.
Two of the club’s senior team’s goalkeepers, David de Gea and Dean Henderson have paid tribute to the player after he hung his boots.
De Gea said:
“It was sad. I have been training with him, when he was fit, and it’s very sad news. I wish him all the best. He’s a great lad, a great goalkeeper and we all feel really sorry for him.”

No 2, Dean Henderson also described the news as devastating and praised the goalkeeper’s technical abilities. He also claimed that it was a good time for Woolston to take a step in a different direction.
Paul Woolston joined the Red Devils from Newcastle in 2018 and made 19 appearances in the Premier League 2.
