It’s a new month and with all new months come new movies. This month is especially amazing as “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” finally hits the big screen after months of waiting. We finally get to experience another Marvel masterclass, something to rinse the disappointing showing of last month’s “Morbius” off our minds.
As usual, several movies are coming to the theaters this month and you’re probably going to be looking to see the best of the crop. Luckily, we have got you covered. 5. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6)
This movie needs no introduction. It’s probably one you have been looking forward to since watching the first 2016 Doctor Strange film. This time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) explores the concept of the multiverse, which was first revealed in 2019’s Avenger’s Endgame.
As expected, Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the title character. If you’ve watched the trailers, you’ll also know to expect Elizabeth Olsen as a fellow superhero, Wanda Maximoff. Sam Raimi comes in as the director after taking a break from superhero movies, following his helming of the 2000s-era SpiderMan movies.
4. Firestarter (May 13)
Firestarter is a remake of the 1984’s movie with the same name. The first Firestarter movie grossed $17 million when it was released. That’s $46.5 million when adjusted for ticket price inflation today.
The coming release features Zac Efron playing a father who must protect his young daughter with superpowers. The child played Ryan Kiera, possesses the ability to create fire with her mind. Other cast include Sydney Lemmon, Kurtwood Smith, and John Beasley.
3. The Wildflower (May 27)
VSL Media unveiled a teaser for ‘The Wildflower’ movie that had everyone spell-bound. The film which was directed by Biodun Stephen follows the story of three Nigerian women and their experience with sexual assault.
It stars a host of movie stars such as Toyin Abraham, Zubby Micheal, Etinosa Idemudia, Kiki Omeli, Deyemi Okanlawon, and Sandra Okunzuwa. The movie premiers in cinemas on May 27, 2022, and can be viewed nationwide.

2. Ben From Downstairs (May 13)
All Nollywood movie lovers are advised to watch this thrilling and engaging romance movie. It tells the story of a girl who is wary about falling in love while living in an urban city. She eventually has to manage an entanglement with her neighbour who appears to be the perfect gentleman.
This movie hits the big screen on May 13. It mainly features Juliet Njemanze who plays Muna. Abayomi Alvin comes in as Ben, the titular character. If you looking for top Nigerian movies to watch in May, they don’t come better than this.
1. Top Gun: Maverick (May 27)
36 years after starring as Maverick in the first Top Gun movie, Tom Cruise is back in a Paramount’s action sequel. This 2022 release will also feature other top casts such as Miles Teller and Jon Hamm.
1986’s Top Gun earned $176.7 million, about $436.4 million when adjusted for inflation. It was the highest-grossing movie of the year, so it’s not too much to expect the sequel to make the top 10 of this year.
