
Nigerian universities set to resume and commence academic activities in January 18.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has notified all vice-chancellors of universities in the country to resume academic activities on January 18.
The directive is in accordance with the announcement of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.
In a statement signed by Chris Maiyaki, NUC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Professor Abubakar Rasheed.
Maiyaki urged universities to protect lives by strictly following all recommended safety protocols and guidelines the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Public universities in Nigeria have been closed since March 2020, after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on a strike. And the COVID-19 pandemic also grounded academic activities as the government imposed a lockdown to contain the virus.
ASUU on December 23, 2020, suspended the industrial action after the federal government met their demands.
