FG Has Ordered The Reversal of Electricity Tariff – Minister Of Power

The Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to revert to the previous electricity tariff.

It could be recalled that NERC announced a new electricity tariff effective January 1, 2021 that contained almost 120% increment.

He new fire five would see the tariff revert to what was applicable as at December 31, 2020.

 

The Minister of Power, Mr Saleh Mamman, has instructed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to update all Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) on the FG’s directive that electricity tariff be reverted were applicable in December 2020.

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by Mr Aaron Artimas, Senior Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister of Power.

According to him, the reversal to the old tariff was to enable constructive negotiation with Labour Union, a discussion that had been on the table since Labour threatened to embark on a strike if electricity tariff was hiked.

He retrustrd the government’s commitment to continue the full subsidisation of 55 per cent of on-grid consumers in bands D and E while also maintaining the lifeline tariff for the poor and underprivileged.
