8,491 Nigerians React to Astrazeneca COVID Vaccine

8,491 Nigerians that received the AstraZeneca COVID Vaccine have reacted adversely to its use.

This was disclosed by Dr. Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

The NPHCDA disclosed that there were 52 cases of moderate to severe side effects like fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and allergic reactions.

There were also 8,439 cases of mild side effects which included swelling on the area of the inoculation and body pains.

The five states with the highest cases of adverse side effect are Kaduna (970 cases ), Cross River (859 cases ), Yobe (541 cases ), Kebbi (511 cases ), and Lagos (448 cases)

The NPHCDA director however revealed that no death has been recorded from the use of the vaccine.

The agency also revealed that it had not recorded any cases of blood clots like some European countries did.

NPHCDA has also announced plans to work with NAFDAC and NCDC to set up a surveillance system to monitor the side effects.
