Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 Boss Mustapha has stated that Nigeria is seeking an alliance with the United States in the fight against COVID-19.

Mr Mustapha revealed that Nigeria is willing to collaborate with the US in a bid to acquire vaccines directly from companies.

During a meeting with the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard on Thursday, Boss Mustapha revealed that Nigeria plans to use vaccines in its bid to vaccinate at least 70% of the population.

The boss of the COVID task force revealed that the country needs to vaccinate 70% of over 200 million residents to gain herd immunity.

Currently Nigerian has only been able to acquire COVID 19 vaccine through the COVAX initiative and donations.

Currently, only 4.1 million doses of vaccines have been delivered into the country, leaving Nigeria some way off its target.

Mr Boss Mustapha also urged the US to consider setting up plants for vaccine production in Nigeria.

At the moment just 1.9 million people have received at least one dose of the COVID 19 vaccine in Nigeria.
