COVID 19: UAE Bans Nigeria Flights

  • The United Arab Emirates has suspended incoming flights from Nigeria and three other African countries
  • The ban was as a result of increased COVID 19 cases in the country due to the emergence of the Omicron variant
  • The other countries affected by the ban are Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a travel ban on flights from Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.

The update was announced by UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) and the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Thursday.

The country claims that the travel restriction is as a result of rising COVID 19 cases in the banned countries due to the spread of the Omicron variant.

Authorities also stated that it will take effect from Saturday, December 25.

According to the released statement, UAE nationals and their first-degree relatives are excluded from the decision.

The excluded categories will however need to provide a COVID 19 test obtained within 48 hours of departure.

It should be noted that flights will still be allowed to run from UAE to the same banned countries despite the ban.
