Nigeria recorded 4,035 new cases of COVID 19 on 22nd December 2021, the country’s highest in a single day since the virus’s inception.
The latest update means that the country has now recorded 231,413 in total, as worries about the 4th wave intensify.
According to the NCDC, a total of 7,930 new cases have been reported in Nigeria this week, with active cases currently at 16,569.
A breakdown of the recorded cases shows that Lagos had the highest with 3,393 new cases, 84.1%.
Rivers had the second-highest with 260 cases, Edo (62), Akwa Ibom (42), Kaduna (39), Ekiti (38), and Oyo (38).
Delta had 31, Kano (31), Ogun (30), Abia (26), Bauchi (15), Ondo (14), Enugu (9), and Kwara (7).

The NCDC reports that 2,991 deaths have been recorded in total while 211,853 have been discharged to date.
Meanwhile, Nigeria currently ranks 8th on the list of countries with the most cases in Africa, following Kenya with 270,899 cases.
