COVID 19 Update: Nigeria Records 71 New Cases, Set to Receive 4 Million Vaccine Doses

71 new cases on coronavirus were recorded in Nigeria on Saturday, according to an update by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC).

This brings the total number of recorded cases in the country to 168,000 since the start of the pandemic.

Out of the 71 new cases, Lagos recorded the highest with 63. Oyo followed with 4, while Ogun and Kano and 3 and 1 respectively.

The country did not record any fatality in its latest report as the total recorded deaths remains 2,121.

The total number of recorded cases in the country currently sits at 167,803 as the country intensifies efforts to prevent another wave of the virus.

The result has been cumulated from 2.3 million tests taken in various parts of the country.

Of the 167,803 recorded cases, 164,378 patients have recovered from the virus while 1,304 cases remain active.

In the battle against the virus, the country appears to be ramping up efforts after health official Dr Olorunimbe Mamora disclosed that Nigeria was working towards manufacturing its own COVID 19 vaccine.

The vaccine will reportedly be manufactured by Bio-Vaccine Nigeria Limited, a federal government-backed firm.

The Chairman of National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) Faisal Shuaib also revealed that Nigeria was close to securing 4 million doses of COVID 19 vaccine in addition to earlier received vaccines.
