COVID 19: FG Makes Unexpected U-turn in Announcement About Vaccine

  • The federal government has postponed the start of phase two of the national COVID 19 vaccination programme
  • The exercise was initially scheduled to begin on Tuesday but a statement by the Director of Press, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey revealed the postponement on Sunday evening
  • The FG spokesman disclosed that the postponement was due to unforeseen circumstances and a new date will be chosen later

The federal government has suspended the phase two vaccination exercise that was scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

Willie Bassey, the Director of Press, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had disclosed on Saturday that COVID 19 vaccination would commence on Tuesday.

However, the spokesperson for the government reversed his statement on Sunday evening, claiming that a new date will be chosen for the exercise later.

In the notice, Bassey disclosed that the postponement was a result of “unforeseen circumstances” that happened.

The content of the notice titled ‘Postponement of phase II of national vacation programme,’ can be seen below

“This is to announce the postponement of the national flag-off exercise of phase II vaccination programme earlier scheduled for Tuesday this week due to unforeseen circumstances.
“A new date will be communicated, please.”

Based on the last report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, 36 people have died from COVID 19 complications in August already.

The country currently has a total of 177,615 coronavirus cases and 2,185 fatalities, while more than 9,000 cases remain active.
