Even though Nigeria has maintained a trend of low infections and death from COVID 19 over the past few weeks, the situation has not been the same with other countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) has disclosed that in the past week alone, about 68,000 COVID 19 death have been recorded globally.
COVID The revelation was made in a video that was posted on the WHO’s official Facebook page on Thursday. In the video, the global body’s COVID technical lead, Mari Kerkhovein also urged everyone to remain cautious as the pandemic was not yet over. Kerhovein also stated that increasing vaccination will be instrumental in bringing the pandemic to an end.

Meanwhile WHO disclosed that the increased COVID 19 deaths were mostly due to the Omicron variant. The WHO lead said the health centers of some countries have been overwhelmed by increased infections and deaths from the variant. However, the latest fatalities is a decline from 75,000 deaths that were reported 2 weeks ago.
In Nigeria, so far, the confirmed cases of the virus stand at 254,394, while 3,142 people have been killed by the disease. NCDC’s data shows that more than 20,000 people remain down with the virus nationwide.
