
COVID 19: Africa’s Vaccinated Population Reaches 8%

About 114 million people (8%) of Africa’s population has been fully vaccinated against the COVID 19, according to data obtained from John Hopkins University’s world map on coronavirus

70 percent of the continent’s population has missed the global target of vaccinating at least 10 percent of their population

The current vaccinated portion is significantly lower than 60 percent in Europe and Britain so far
Africa has failed to meet its COVID 19 vaccination target, aimed at reducing the effect of the virus in the continent.
Data obtained from John Hopkins University’s world map on coronavirus pandemic has shown that only 8%, 114 million people have been vaccinated out of the continent’s 1.3 billion population.
This is significantly lower in contrast to the average vaccinated population in Britain and Europe- 60%.
Also, in the United States of America over 400 million doses have been, with an average of 710,300 doses per day in the last week.
Data sourced from John Hopkins University’s research shows that 114,086,034 vaccines have been administered in Africa.
The same report shows that Africa has recorded 8,487,438 cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic, along with 217,788 deaths.

Africa has been left at the back of the queue for vaccines globally as both COVAX and AVATT have been struggling to get vaccines from manufacturers.
COVAX previously aimed to ship 620 million doses to African countries by the end of 2021 but manufacturing constraints mean that only 470 million doses will be received.
