COVID 19: 8 Deaths and 1,547 New Cases For Nigeria on Boxing Day

  • A total of 1,547 new COVID 19 cases were reported in Nigeria on December 26th, Boxing Day, according to the NCDC
  • 8 deaths were also recorded in the country on the same day, down from 21 fatalities on the previous day
  • In December, the country’s COVID cases have spiked with over 23,000 people testing positive for the virus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported that 8 people suffered COVID 19 related deaths on Boxing Day.

This is a step down from the 21 fatalities that the country recorded on Christmas day.

The daily update also indicated that 1,547 new cases of the deadly virus were recorded on December 26th, taking the country’s tally to 237,561.

The new cases were recorded in 10 states, with Abuja reporting the highest with 806 new cases.

Lagos had 401 cases, Borno (166), Oyo (78), Ogun (47), Osun (30), Ekiti (7), Katsina (7), Kano (4), and Jigawa (1).

The recent increase in positive tests indicates that Nigeria has entered the fourth wave of the pandemic, with 23,000 recorded cases in December.

At the time of the NCDC report, 3.75 million tests had been carried out across the country, representing less than 2% of the nation’s population.
