WhatsApp To Introduce Disappearing Messages Feature

WhatsApp is adding a new disappearing message functionality that will cause messages to automatically delete after a set period.

All users on the platform will now have the option of turning on disappearing messages for all new conversations to allow all future messages to delete automatically.

It also doesn’t end there. Users will have control over how long they want the message to remain before it is deleted.

When the feature initially launched in November 2020, users were limited to having the message delete automatically after 7 days.

However, the latest update will allow users to have messages deleted automatically after 90 days and 24 hours as well.

WhatsApp however notes that this feature will not work if it is enabled for existing chats.

When you start a new chat, a note pops up saying that the disappearing message feature is turned on and you have the option of turning it off.

Although the feature isn’t automatically implemented in group chats, WhatsApp claims that users can enable it when creating a new group.

The new disappearing message feature will be made available to all platforms at the same time.
